COVID-19 Message

November 5, 2020

Good evening. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with a weekly COVID-19 update for Thursday, November 5th. The CT Department of Public Health has added today, for the first time, data for ‘presumed positive’ antigen tests to their case reports. The addition of these previously unreported cases has resulted in 112 cities and towns, including Darien, moving into the Orange or Red Alert level. Darien is now at the Orange Alert Level with a 14-day rolling average of positive and presumed positive cases of 11.8 cases/100,000.

Additional cases in our schools have been reported but are not yet reflected on the school’s COVID-19 dashboard. There are at least 9 cases in our school community resulting in the quarantine of at least 144 individuals.

Governor Lamont, in coordination with Massachusetts and Rhode Island, has issued new Sector Rules tonight rolling our state back to a modified Phase 2. These new rules take effect at midnight tonight.

Gatherings in private homes are limited to 10 people both indoors and outdoors. Restaurants must close all in-person dining areas by 10:00pm (takeout and delivery may continue) and reduce seating capacity to 50%. Gatherings at a commercial venues are capped at 25 people indoors and 50 people outdoors. School and club sports will have additional restrictions. The Governor is urging everyone to “Stay Home, Stay Safe” between the hours of 10pm and 5am.

Murphy Medical Associates has added Wednesday’s from 9am-12pm to our regular weekly drive thru testing schedule. Testing will also be available daily beginning the week before Thanksgiving to help with family travel and returning college students. Visit the Town of Darien website for updated testing dates and times. You can register to be tested at www.coronatestct.com.

The Town of Darien and the Darien Public Schools are working closely together as we move into a time of concern regarding the spread of the virus. You can access our joint COVID press release issued today on the town’s website home page.

Please continue to do your part to eliminate community spread by wearing masks, distancing in public and following good handwashing hygiene.

Please visit the Town of Darien (www.darienct.gov) and State of Connecticut (www.ct.gov/coronavirus) websites for more COVID-19 information including updated Sector Rules and the COVID-19 Alert Framework.

Thank you,

Jayme Stevenson
