Good afternoon. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with important storm information and a weekly COVID report.
Today’s exceptionally beautiful fall weather gives way to another rain and wind storm predicted to begin Monday morning. Strong winds and heavy rain are expected and power outages are possible. Eversource has activated their storm protocols and are ready to respond.
Since November 13, 66 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Darien. Our positivity rate for the month of November stands at 3.1% and the number of tests performed for Darien residents has nearly doubled. There have been 3 additional hospitalizations this month bringing total hospitalizations since March to 20. There are 16 cases in our school community resulting in 245 quarantines.
With the holidays here, testing is an important tool to help reduce community spread. You can find testing sites throughout Connecticut at 211ct.org
. Drive thru testing is available here in Darien through Everpointhealth.com
. Everpoint Health is an out of network provider and payment is due at the time of registration.
I’m very pleased to see so many families enjoying our parks. Please remember that everyone...children and adults alike...must wear masks when in public including while enjoying our parks and beaches. Gathering in groups of more than 4 for sporting activities is not permitted on courts and fields. The Darien Police will be visiting our parks and beaches to enforce these rules.
If we all do our part, our kids will be able to stay in school and we will be able to keep our wonderful shops and restaurants open to serve you safely this holiday season!
