Good evening. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with a Town and COVID-19 update for Thursday, February 11th.
There have been 55 new cases, 2 hospitalizations and sadly, one resident death during the two-week period since January 29th. There are 1061 total cases from 705 unique households. Darien Public Schools report 8 active cases resulting in 101 quarantines. The number of cases locally continues to decline as are cases statewide. You can find statewide data at www.ct.gov/coronavirus.
We are in Phase 1b of the State’s vaccine distribution plan. Anyone 65+ is now eligible for vaccine. If you are a Darien resident 65+ and wish to be vaccinated at a Darien Health Department clinic, you must call our Health & Human Services Department at (203)656-7328 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are required. Walk-ins will be turned away.
Grieb’s Pharmacy and Walgreens here in Darien are also offering vaccines. To register at Walgreens, go to www.Walgreens.com/schedulevaccine and to register for vaccines at Grieb’s Pharmacy, go to www.Griebspharmacy.com.
For general vaccine information or to get help with the State’s vaccine management system, please call the state’s 2-1-1 help line.
I recommend you consult with your healthcare provider to see if the COVID-19 vaccine is right for you.
The Darien Health Department has administered over 850 first vaccine doses and will begin giving second doses next week. Those who received their first dose of vaccine at a Town of Darien clinic must receive their second dose at a Town of Darien clinic.
Next week is school vacation week. Please continue to follow all COVID-19 safety rules…mask wearing and distancing…as you enjoy the holiday break.
With more snow forecast for next week, this is a gentle reminder that if you have a sidewalk in front of your house or business, please clear the snow and ice within 24 hours for the safety of pedestrians, particularly our school students.
Thank you and have a good weekend!
