Good evening. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with a COVID-19 update for Thursday, April 15st.
There have been 58 new cases during the two-week period since April 2nd. Darien’s positivity rate stands at 2.3%. There have been a total of 1467 cases from 928 unique households and no new hospitalizations since my last report. Darien Public Schools report 16 active cases resulting in 72 quarantines.
As a reminder, Darien Public School students will be remote learning from April 19-23 after spring break. Whether you have traveled or not, if you feel sick, stay home, get tested and wait for a negative result before resuming your daily activities.
Darien Public Schools in collaboration with Community Health Centers has arranged for Darien High School Class of 2021 students to receive their first dose of Pfizer vaccine on May 1st at the CHC site at Lord & Taylor site (110 High Ridge Road) in Stamford. Students can register at DARIEN HIGH SCHOOL VACCINE CLINIC REGISTRATION LINK. Registration information is posted on the Town of Darien website. Class of 2021 students under the age of 18 who wish to be vaccinated will require parental consent to do so.
Over 45% of all eligible Darien residents have received their first dose of vaccine. Given our large population of residents under the age of 20, this is very good news. Darien vaccine clinics are held twice a week in the Town Hall gymnasium. Only Modera vaccines are being offered at this time. We are tracking information about folks who are fully vaccinated who then contract COVID. Only one such case has occurred in Darien so far.
Out of an abundance of caution, Connecticut, in accordance with the FDA & CDC, has paused on providing Johnson & Johnson vaccines due to 6 cases of blood clots post-vaccine reported in the U.S. This side effect is extremely rare...a one in a million chance of occurrence. If you have received the J&J vaccine and develop severe headache, abdominal or leg pain or shortness of breath within 3 weeks of your vaccine, please contact your healthcare provider.
You can find a local vaccine provider at www.CovidVaccineFinder.ct.gov or register for vaccines at www.vams.cdc.gov or by calling 1(877)918-2224.
Local vaccine providers include Grieb’s Pharmacy www.griebspharmacy.com, Walgreens www.walgreens.com/schedulevaccine, Stamford Hospital https://stamfordhealth.org, Yale New Haven Health www.ynhhs.org and certain Stop & Shop Pharmacies www.StopandShop.com.
Statewide COVID-19 data can be found at www.ct.gov/coronavirus and Darien-specific data at www.darienct.gov/covid19. Please visit www.cdc.gov for more information on travel recommendations and rules for folks who are fully vaccinated.
I appreciate your continued diligence with mask wearing and distancing. As we move into the summer and the majority of folks are vaccinated, I’m very hopeful these rules will be relaxed.
Thank you and good evening!
