Good evening. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with a COVID-19 update for Thursday, May 6th.
I’m very pleased and cautiously optimistic to report that there have only been 5 new cases reported in the two-week period since April 22th. Darien’s 2-week positivity rate has declined to 0.66%. Zero positive cases have been reported this past week. There have been a total of 1507 cases from 952 unique households. Darien Public Schools report 1 active case resulting in 7 quarantines. 58% of the Darien population has received at least 1 dose of vaccine. Given the significant number of residents currently below the age of eligibility, vaccine adoption is very strong.
With positive cases declining significantly, the Darien school administrators with input from local health officials is considering modifications to quarantine policies. The district will provide more information when decisions are formalized.
Darien High School Students who received their first dose of vaccine on 5/1 will receive their second dose on 5/22. A special Pfizer vaccine clinic for anyone 16+ will be held on Saturday, May 8th and Sunday, May 9th from 8:30am till 7:00pm at Brunswick School in Greenwich (1252 King Street, Greenwich, CT). Walk-ins are welcome. For more information, visit www.ynhhs.org/covidvaccine or call 1(833)275-9644. We encourage all students 16+, with parent permission, to consider getting vaccinated. Being vaccinated reduces or eliminates the need for quarantining if you’ve been exposed to someone with COVID.
The CDC may rule as early as 5/12 on expanding use of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12-15. Darien’s Health Department is in conversations with Community Health Center and Walgreens to ensure Pfizer vaccine will be available for our kids.
Darien Vaccine Clinics offer Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines only. Town of Darien clinics operate on Wednesdays from 9am to 3pm. Appointments can be made but are no longer necessary.
If you are due or overdue for your second dose of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, please don’t delay in getting it. The vaccine is at peak effectiveness two weeks after you have been fully immunized. If you are sick, please stay home and get tested. You can find COVID-19 testing sites under COVID resources on the town’s website.
We continue to await guidance from Governor Lamont regarding modifications to business and personal COVID guidelines for 5/20 when Emergency Declarations and Executive Orders expire.
You can find a vaccine provider at www.CovidVaccineFinder.ct.gov or by calling 1(877)918-2224. Local vaccine providers include Grieb’s Pharmacy www.Griebspharmacy.com, Walgreens www.walgreens.com/schedulevaccine, Stamford Hospital https://stamfordhealth.org, Yale New Haven Health www.ynhhs.org, Community Health Center www.chc1.com, CVS and certain Stop & Shop Pharmacies www.StopandShop.com.
