August 9, 2022 Update:
Over the past few months, Town of Darien officials, staff and consultants have been hard at work completing due diligence, reviewing documentation and land records and seeking to resolve any issue necessary to complete the acquisition of the Great Island property. On Thursday, August 4, the Town and the Steinkraus family mutually agreed to amend the purchase contract in order to extend the diligence period and take the necessary steps to address the outstanding issues and complete the purchase that will result in making Great Island available to our community for years to come. The Town remains excited about the purchase of Great Island and looks to finalize its work and close the transaction as soon as possible.
The Darien Board of Selectmen hosted an information session on the proposed purchase of Great Island. The presentation included a virtual tour of the property, and the possibilities for future use. Local leaders discussed the purchase and approval process. Residents were encouraged to attend the meeting. Public comments on this once in a lifetime opportunity were shared at the meeting and submitted via email to boardofselectmen@darienct.gov.
