Lead Safe Permits

The Darien Health Department announces a new Lead Safe program that will help reduce the potential public health and environmental impact of lead dust exposure.

As of January 1, 2003 all contractors and property owners must obtain a permit from the Darien Health Department prior to exterior sand blasting, power sanding or power washing of buildings and other structures. Of special concern are those structures built prior to 1978. In addition, a Lead Safe removal plan must be submitted at the time of permitting to the Health Department for review and approval.
