Volunteer for a Board / Commission

The Town of Darien is fortunate to have many residents willing to volunteer their time and expertise on a board or commission to better the community as a whole. A diverse group of  boards and commissions, with non-elected members, allows residents a variety of opportunities to take an active roll in decisions that impact life in Darien. Volunteers are vital to the success of projects and ideas that make Darien such a special place to live. We're here to help you get involved!

Basic Information

To serve on a Board or Commission you must be a registered voter in the Town of Darien. Registered Democrats should complete the Common Application and then reach out to the Democratic Town Committee (DTC).  Registered Republicans should complete the Common Application and then reach out to the Republican Town Committee (RTC). Nomination to a board or commission is approved and forwarded by the RTC or DTC to the Board of Selectmen. The Board of Selectmen meets with each candidate prior to making an appointment.

Unaffiliated, Democrat and Republican voters may also seek appointment by coming directly to the Board of Selectmen. To do so, please complete the Common Application and email Linda O'Leary in the Office of the Selectmen. Feel free to call Linda with any questions, 203-656-7333.

Individuals interested in becoming an elected official on: Board of Assessment Appeals, Board of Education, Board of Finance, Board of Selectmen, Planning and Zoning Commission or the RTM, should contact their respective political party.

State Minority Representation Rules

Darien follows State guidelines to maintain the proper ratio of party representation on all Boards and Commissions. View the Minority Representation on Municipal Boards (PDF).
